ROBERT L. CHRISTIE

Robert L. Christie, who brings 35 years of trial experience and expertise to the firm, leads CLG into its 11th year. AV Rated in Martindale Hubbell and a Washington Law & Politics “Super Lawyer” since 2000, Mr. Christie is a 1977 graduate of the University of Washington and a 1980 graduate (cum laude) of the University of Puget Sound School of Law. He began his career as a law clerk to Honorable Vernon Pearson, Division II Court of Appeals.
Bob has tried scores of cases throughout Washington State and the U.S. District Courts in Washington and Alaska. In his appellate practice, he has argued appeals in all divisions of the Washington Court of Appeals, the Washington State Supreme Court, Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, the Federal Circuit Court of Appeals, and U.S. Supreme Court (on briefs). He has defended hundreds of police officers and scores of police departments in civil rights cases, both at trial and on appeal. Bob has served as co-chair of the Washington Pattern Instruction subcommittee charged with drafting civil rights instructions for use in Washington’s superior courts.
Admitted to membership in the Federation of Defense & Corporate Counsel, Bob chaired the substantive law section on Civil Rights and Public Entity Liability, responsible for authoring periodic newsletters to section members and substantive articles for the FDCC Quarterly. In August 2016 he was elected as one of eight senior directors to the FDCC. He has served as an instructor at the FDCC’s Litigation Management College. Bob is also a member DRI and ADTA. He writes and lectures frequently on risk management issues. In addition to civil rights and governmental entity liability, Bob represents professionals, individuals, and companies in litigation ranging from malpractice, products liability, transportation liability, premise liability, commercial litigation, employment, construction, and many other categories of civil disputes. He works extensively in cases involving death and serious injury. Working occasionally on behalf of catastrophically injured individuals and damaged business owners, Bob has achieved several multi-million dollar verdicts and settlements.
Bob is admitted as well to practice law in the states of Oregon and Idaho.
THOMAS P. MILLER

After graduating from the University of Montana (B.A. 1995) and the University of Denver College of Law (J.D. 2003), Tom joined CLG when it was founded in 2005 and has readily established himself as a key member of the team with an emphasis on civil rights defense, wrongful death, death inquests, and employment discrimination. A partner since 2009, Tom tries cases in state and federal courts, and has appeared and argued before the Washington State Court of Appeals and Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. Tom represents police officers, police departments, and other city officials throughout the state, defending them in civil rights and negligence cases. Tom is a member of the Federation of Defense & Corporate Counsel (“FDCC”), the nation’s premier defense lawyer organization with 1,100 peer selected members world-wide. The FDCC appointed Tom the Washington State representative for the FDCC for 2014-2016. Tom has been selected as a Rising Star by Washington Law & Politics and is an active member of the Washington Defense Trial Lawyers.
Prior to joining CLG, Alex worked at the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office and as a law clerk in Alaska. His background in criminal and civil litigation allows him to critically contribute to our civil rights defense and employment discrimination practices. He has authored scores of major briefs in state and federal court, including the Ninth Circuit, and just recently presented his first appellate argument in Division I of the Washington Court of Appeals. Though originally from southern Oregon, Alex attended the University of Washington for both his undergraduate (B.A.s English and Spanish with College and Departmental Honors) and law degrees. He is our first Double Dawg. While attending law school, Alex served as the Editor-in-Chief of the Washington Journal of Law, Technology, and Arts, and worked at the Washington State Attorney General’s Office and United States District Court for the Eastern District of Washington.
ANN E. TRIVETT

Ann handles a vast array of cases, focusing on civil rights and municipal liability defense. She has been with the firm since 2005 and a practicing attorney since 2007. Having graduated from Villanova University (B.A. 2004; Cum Laude) and Seattle University School of Law (J.D. 2007; Magna Cum Laude), Ann has proven herself a dedicated, well-organized, and persuasive advocate. She recently first chaired a successful federal court jury trial on behalf of a local police officer. She has second chaired a number of major trials in both federal and state court, presented oral argument on scores of dispositive motions, and authored scores of briefs at the trial and appellate level. In September of 2012, Ann completed the National institute for Trial Advocacy’s Building Trial Skills six-day course, where she further honed her trial and courtroom abilities. Washington Law & Politics selected Ann as a Rising Star in 2014.
